We formed Nicoll Black & Feig because we share common values, enjoy practicing our style of law together, and prefer to practice in a collegial, self-directed atmosphere. We offer a unique combination of hands-on, academic, and legal experience in the fields where we focus our practice. Our shared vision guides us to be vigilant, proficient, and resourceful on behalf of our clients.

Vigilant

In an adversarial legal system, your attorneys must always be on the alert. At Nicoll Black & Feig, we understand the importance of vigilance in both a broad sense and in the context of an individual case or matter that we are handling. In the general sense, vigilance means that we are always aware of legal trends that affect our practice. It also means that we learn and stay current with our clients’ businesses so that, when the time comes for them to appoint counsel, we are better able to understand their goals and are attentive to their needs. In a lawsuit or matter that we handle, vigilance stands for attention to detail and anticipation of our opponents’ tactics and strategy. Nicoll Black & Feig is dedicated to diligently pursuing the intricate details of the important facts and law of every matter we handle.

A key aspect of vigilance is responsiveness. Catastrophe strikes at night and rarely takes holidays and weekends off. We understand this. At Nicoll Black & Feig, our attorneys are always available. We have invested in the best-proven technology to assure that communication channels are always open. We are committed to becoming the most responsive law firm you will ever work with.

Resourceful

Resourceful means “able to act effectively or imaginatively, especially in difficult situations.” American Heritage Dictionary (4th ed. 2000).

Nicoll Black & Feig is not fixed in its approach to practicing law. Each case and matter is different and usually requires a unique strategy. A resourceful attorney is one who employs a strategy at the outset of a case with the purpose of meeting the clients’ goals and then aggressively pursues that strategy until the goals are met or until developments require that the strategy be altered.

The effective use of resources requires efficiency. Our philosophy and policy is to focus on the key issues of a case. Sometimes, this enables us to dispense with the case on summary judgment. Other times, it highlights the weaknesses in our opponent’s case and forces the other side to settle the case on terms that are favorable to our client. By recognizing the central issues and aggressively pursuing those issues early on in the litigation, we aim to accomplish our clients’ goals in the most efficient manner possible.

Proficient

The term proficient means “having or marked by an advanced degree of competence, as in art, vocation, profession, or branch of learning.” American Heritage Dictionary (4th ed. 2000).

Proficient legal representation begins by understanding the facts of the case and the client’s goals. It involves an honest initial assessment of the likelihood and costs of success, and identification of the specific legal issues that the matter is likely to turn on. Finally, it involves the development and execution of a plan that is fully consistent with the client’s goals.

Proficiency also incorporates knowledge and experience. Our attorneys are experts in the areas that we practice in. We are familiar with the intricate details of highly specialized areas of law, such as maritime law and insurance coverage. Our knowledge and experience allows us to recognize issues as they arise and address those issues accordingly.
